Why would the Whicher Range reservoir be accessed conventionally when it is contained in tight sands?
The gas reservoir is low permeability (often referred to as ‘tight’) but history shows clearly that gas flows naturally from the reservoir without hydraulic fracturing (fracking) or stimulation. This was clearly demonstrated during the well testing we conducted in 2015.
The Whicher Range gas field can therefore be accessed under natural flow using proven gas drilling and production technology. We have assessed previous exploration programs at Whicher Range and have drawn the very clear conclusion that any form of stimulation (including fracking) is not suitable for this gas reservoir.
